SEED VARIETY GUIDE

Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus)
Type: Annual
Height: 90cm
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: June to August
Fun Fact: These vibrant blue flowers are edible with a cucumber-like taste. Use them in salads, teas, or as a beautiful garnish.

Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare)
Type: Perennial
Height: 30cm – 90cm
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: May to September
Note: They are often called “Moon Daisies” because their bright white petals appear to “glow” in the evening light.

Red Campion (Silene dioica)Type: Perennial
Height: 20cm – 60cm (can reach up to 1m)
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: March to November
Note:  Known as the “flower of champions,” to the Romans who wove garlands for victors. Named long before the word “pink” was commonly used to describe colour.

Musk Mallow (Malva moschata)
Type: Perennial
Height: 40cm – 70cm
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: June to August
Note: A tall, elegant plant with large rose-pink petals. Beyond its beauty, it is cultivated for its fragrant seeds used in perfumes, and its fibres were once used in the process of clarifying sugar.

Meadow Cranesbill (Geranium pratense)
Type: Perennial
Height: 30cm – 70cm
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: June to September
Note: These large purple flowers are famous for their unique transformation; once the petals fall, they develop long, pointed seed pods that resemble a crane’s bill, giving the plant its distinctive name.

Common Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris)
Type: Perennial
Height: 15cm – 75cm
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: June to November
Note: Famously known as “Butter and Eggs” due to its striking yellow and orange blossoms. Its dense clusters look just like tiny wild snapdragons and were traditionally believed in Celtic folklore to point the way to hidden fairy treasure.

Cowslip (Primula veris)
Type: Perennial
Height: 10cm – 30cm
Scatter: Spring or Autumn
Flowers: April to May
Note: A beloved herald of spring that bears delicate clusters of sweet-scented, golden-yellow bells. In old English folklore, children would tie the flower stalks together to create “cowslip balls” used in playful games to predict their future sweethearts.
